Get ready to see snow in Boise!

Tree lined road covered in snow with tire tracks

We’ve finally entered that point when the 10-day forecast shows a chance for the season’s first snowfall! The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) has a few friendly reminders for drivers before the first snowy commute.

Last year in Idaho, 17 people crashed into snowplows, so be sure and give them extra space, or better yet, stay behind a snow plow since ITD says that’s where you’re the safest.

Have you winterized your car yet? Anyone who has ever needed to wash away the grime and salt on their windshield knows the frustration of finding the reservoir empty when they need it most. While you’re checking that, be sure to check your battery and tires.

If you don’t have an emergency kit to stash in your car, here are some tips from ITD, like flares, chains, a shovel, flashlight, food, water, and more.

It is always a good idea to check road conditions before you leave, and that can be done on the Idaho 511 app, or here. This handy link also includes maps with cameras! Drive safe out there, Boise, and enjoy the coming winter wonderland!
